Located not far from the sea but also in a historic region, Ferme de la Rançonnière offers a multitude of possibilities in terms of cultural leisure, such as the city of Bayeux, famous for the richness and diversity of its cultural heritage.

Bayeux Tapestry

World famous, the Bayeux Tapestry is a unique masterpiece. An 11th century work of art measuring 70 m by 0.50 m of linen cloth embroidered with colored wool, exposing in 58 scenes the reasons and circumstances of the expedition of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy and his army in 1066. This superb work was apparently commissioned by Odo, William's half-brother and bishop of Bayeux, from an Anglo-Saxon workshop to then present in the nave of his cathedral.

Notre-Dame cathedral

An exceptional site which was the subject of numerous embellishments and modifications between the 13th and 15th centuries. It dominates the city center of Bayeux, whose heritage is exceptional. Visit of the Cathedral every day in season.

Conservatory of Lace

This workshop aims to safeguard the know-how transmitted by the lacemakers of Bayeux since the 17th century. The Conservatory of Lace continues to teach bobbin lace techniques. Exhibition, animation, sale. Free tour.

Colombières castle

The Château de Colombières dates from the end of the 14th century. Originally, it was one of the many fortresses erected around the 10th and 11th centuries to resist English invasions. Over the centuries, this castle, built on the edge of marshes and surrounded by a moat still full of water, has suffered erosion over time as well as architectural modifications. From generation to generation, successive owners have taken great care of this castle. Saint-Martin Abbey of Juaye-Mondaye

Founded in 1202, the Saint-Martin de Mondaye Abbey is located in the middle of the Normandy countryside in peace and silence. This place of silence and serenity belongs to the order of Prémonté. In remarkable buildings of great sobriety rebuilt in the 18th century, canons dedicate themselves to prayer and to the service of the church.

Balleroy Castle

It was one of the first works of François Mansart. This elegant site nestles in the countryside, near a large forest of oaks and beeches, rich in game. The French garden, designed by André le Nôtre, is a real boxwood embroidery. The commons are arranged symmetrically on both sides. In one of them is the International Balloon Museum, created in 1975 by Malcolm S. Forbes. On the other side of the castle, a large partially wooded park opens up the space to the surrounding nature, which used to allow hounds to start.
