La Ranconnière: a few minutes from Arromanches

    La Rançonnière in 1944

The hotel de la Rançonnière is located just ten minutes from Arromanches, a real nerve center of the Liberation thanks to its artificial harbor (Mulberry Harbor).

Our hotel was also requisitioned as a base by the German army, until the liberation by the American soldiers. It also withstood the many bombings. This allows us to offer you today a residence steeped in history and all comfort. Ideal location to discover the Normandy landing beaches!

Visit the historic sites in Arromanches

    • We recommend that you start with a visit to a museum, such as the Landing Museum, outlining the main lines of operations on June 6. This will keep events in mind when you visit the beaches afterwards. In addition, you will discover how the port of Mulberry was built through an impressive model.
    • Equally, Arromanches 360 is a must. This circular cinema projects archival images on a dozen screens all around you, plunging you into the heart of history.
    • Continue with the remains of the artificial harbor which can still be seen from the shore, located right next to these two museums.
    • Finally, go further east to reach Gold Beach, the scene of the landing of the British troops.

The sites not to be missed for your stay discovering the landing beaches

From our hotel, you have easy access to other unmissable sites on the coast.

For a complete overview, we recommend that you vary your visits: beaches, museums, bunker, cemetery ...

Go to Utah beach for its incredible museum detailing the landing in 10 chronological stages: ideal for understanding everything about this big day.

Do not miss Omaha beach and its American cemetery of more than 7 hectares. You will also find other museums here, including the Overlord Museum, housing more than 40 vehicles (including tanks and cannons).

Between these two beaches, stop at Pointe du Hoc. This highly strategic location protected the beaches of Omaha and Utah, and therefore absolutely had to be captured. The bunkers were heavily bombed there, but their remains are still clearly visible today.

Juno Beach, captured by the Canadian and British armies, was the most significant breakthrough despite heavy casualties.

Finally, Sword beach is the only beach where French soldiers have landed, with the famous number 4 commando. It is also the only place where a museum is dedicated to them. Don't forget the Pegasus Bridge, the first bridge to be liberated, as well as the Atlantic Wall Museum built in a bunker.

Good plan : visit the beaches aboard a small plane! The overflight is quite affordable and allows you to have a new point of view on the coast.
