The abbey of the Mont-Saint-Michel is the place of interest Normand more visited. This "wonder of the world" was built between XIe and XVIe centuries.
This high international place of pélerinage owes its origin to the bishop of Avranches Saint-Aubert which, in VIIIe century would have seen appearing the Michaelmas archangel.
The abbey of the Mont-Saint-Michel underwent with the wire of the centuries some rehandlings and this architectural unit is made up thus of a pre-Romance church, of abbey, Romance and Gothic buildings conventuels called "the Wonder". Transformed into prison of the revolution to the Second Empire, the abbey was entrusted in 1874 to the service of the historic buildings. Since 1969, a monastic community ensures a permanent spiritual presence.
To also see: the Grévin Museum. Located at the foot of the Abbey, it revives construction, the monastic life and the history as a whole of the Mont-Saint-Michel.
